Propelled by the feeling of Craving, Insatiability
We contain when we hold difficult experiences internally, either to suppress unwanted feelings or to turn against the self
"I can swallow this". Containment offers a way to pause the expression of affect and impulses; as simple as a babe closing their fist or holding their breath to resist screaming. The act of containing creates a temporary homeostasis without fully cutting off from others. This helpful primitive mechanism can evolve into the use of substances (from thumb sucking to cocktails) to serve the same regulatory function. When not joined with mechanisms of self expression, the contained person can force the redirection of negative emotions against the self.
Kind, Benevolent
As adults we Contain as a means to experience ourselves as Obedient, Generous
-
There is a consensus reality - where we perceive that which is agreed upon as reliable. In this shared reality, we generally see four “acceptable” combinations of defense mechanisms operating. Developed in early childhood, they continue to operate as a basic temperamental style throughout adulthood. Here we see Containing as it combines with its four common partners.
When Containing is combined with Detaching =
I behave as a Hedonist - containing my feelings while seeking to be Enthralling
When Containing is combined with Absorbing =
I behave as a Sycophant- containing my feelings while seeking to be Exalting
When Containing is combined with Discharging =
I behave as a Snob - containing my feelings while seeking to be Flawless
When Containing is combined with Recoiling =
I behave as a Recluse - containing my feelings while seeking to be Galvanized
Enthralling Hedonist
Containing my feelings while seeking to appear Awake
Exalting Sycophant
Containing my feelings while seeking to appear Loved
Flawless Snob
Containing my feelings while seeking to appear Hopeful
Galvanized Recluse
Containing my feelings while seeking to appear Confident

Dark wave energies are experienced outside the accepted norms of reality, usually occurring in the form of a persistent Doppelganger, a nemesis to our accepted sense of selfhood.
As our attachment to the rotating Defense Structures within us dissolves, attention turns to disembodied dark waves that we find alive in our environment. There are 18 available to the witnessing eye. As we gain a more direct relationship to these Dark Wave entities, we place ourselves at the Gates of Dawn.
