Internalizing our external discomforts as if they all come from the inside, can help us assume personal accountability when building relational intimacy, generate and model humility with others, and recognize an inner agency for change. However absorbing the source of all troubles on to ourselves, can contribute a pall of disenfranchisement to any group we are in. Left unattended, an urge toward self annihilation can work its way into the public mood creating a sense of genuine physical danger.
