We absorb when we personalize things external to us, setting the foundation for internalizing rules and having a conscience. This is the pre-verbal foundation by which the self begins to construct its identity, pulling in the perceived strength and goodness of the caregiver to guarantee survival. However, using Absorption reflexively means that we also take in the caregiver's unexamined flaws which becomes fixed and rigid in the foundation of the self. The self is then condemned to act out these unchosen scripts, leading to profound struggles with self-esteem and identity.

There is a consensus reality - where we perceive that which is agreed upon as reliable. In this shared reality, Absorption combines with four co-conspirators that help to shape one’s identity and life experience. Developed in early childhood, they continue to operate as a basic temperamental style throughout adulthood. Here we see Absorbing as it combines with its four common partners: disavowal, containment, recoiling, and discharging

Defense Structures dissolve over time, allowing attention to turn to the Dark Waves ripples that have been occurring in their wake. Dark wave energies are experienced outside the accepted norms of reality; sometimes making their presence known in our sexual disinhibitions, more often in the acts of people we only know as Doppelgangers - the deplorable “Others” we struggle to keep at the periphery of our lives.
As we gain a more personal relationship to the entities which enliven Dark Wave energies, we place ourselves at the Gates of Dawn.
